SYF 2008

Dear darlings,

the SYF is finally over. I hope you are not too disappointed with the silver award that we've gotten. It is already an improvement from the last SYF. In the teachers' eyes, you all are winners! Why do I say that?

1. You have shown great commitment to improve your dance by coming for every practice. You gave up your precious sleep on Saturday mornings and even sacrificed your March holidays to come to school. We know it is tiring to keep training for the dance but you all have shown us your determination to do well!

2. You have shown fantastic improvement over the months and have given a wonderful performance as commended by Mrs Lim, Mrs Tye, Mrs Ng, Zhong Lao Shi, your parents, us teachers as well as the aunty and uncle (the general office staff who came to support you)! People who watched your dance only have positive comments for you! Remember Zheng Lao Shi's daughter? Her Chinese dance instructor saw your performance at UCC (she was sitting infront of us in the circle seats) and said it was very good too! :)

3. You have displayed the spirit of a performer by giving your best on stage and putting up a dance for the audience to enjoy. All of you did your part to position yourself well and to synchronise the movements. Most importantly, despite being very nervous, each and every one of you held your smiles till the end!

We are indeed very proud of you!! All of you deserves a pat on the back!
P2, P3s and P4s, you will still have a chance to take part in the SYF competition in two years time, I'm sure with this experience, you will do even better! :)

We love you!

Viewing of Central Judging at NUS, UCC

Dear Girls,
as mentioned in one of our sessions, your parents can make their own way down to NUS, UCC to watch your performance.

Our reporting time is 11.50 am and judging time is about 12 pm.
Your parents will have to be seated in the circus seats.

After your dance, we'll let you go up to the circus seats to view a few school's dances before we head back to mbs.
You won't be in time to catch the school bus home. So please arrange for transport home.
Lunch will be catered for you. :)

Counting down: 6 more days to go!
Hugs,
Miss Lee

Dancing Quotes

Dear girls,

some quotes on dancing for your reading pleasure.

“Great dancers aren't great because of their technique; they are great because of their passion.”

"We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams."

"Quitters never win and winners never quit."

"Dancing with the feet is one thing, but dancing with the heart is another."

"Behind each victory is a long train of suffering!"

"Artists lead unglamorous daily lives of discipline and routine, but their work is full of passion. Each has a vision and feels responsibility to that vision." ~Merryl Brockway

"Dancers are an admirable bunch of people. The way they work. The stress is extraordinary. It's a difficult career. I think it's hellish; the fact that they are over the hill as they're emotionally maturing. That calls for a terrific strength of character." ~Lady D. MacMillan

"Dance is your pulse, your heartbeat, your breathing. It's the rhythm of your life. It's the expression in time and movement, in happiness, joy, sadness and envy." ~Jaques D'ambroise

"Then come the lights shining on you from above. You are a performer. You forget all you learned, the process of technique, the fear, the pain, you even forget who you are you become one with the music, the lights, indeed one with the dance." ~Shirley Maclaine

"The Dancer believes that his art has something to say which cannot be expressed in words or in any other way than by dancing... there are times when the simple dignity of movement can fulfill the function of a volume of words. There are movements which impinge upon the nerves with a strength that is incomparable, for movement has power to stir the senses and emotions, unique in itself. This is the dancer's justification for being, and his reason for searching further for deeper aspects of his art." ~Doris Humphrey, 1937
